Everybody’s favourite Leeds noise-mongerers Blacklisters have released a new video for their single ‘Trickfuck’. The bands debut album, Blklstrs, sees a physical release on Monday, via the ever-impressive Brew Records.

Distorted Tapes to DJ Holy State’s last ever Birmingham show

We like Distorted Tapes. They put out awesome records, make a wicked zine, and put on cool gigs. Most importantly, they’re bloody lovely.

This is why we are very happy to announce they’ll be doing a DJ set at our next gig – along with live performances from Holy State (who are providing an audio-visual extravaganza on their last ever UK tour) & new Birmingham noise-mongers Them Wolves. They have said we can expect to hear a healthy mix of grunge & post-hardcore, served up on a platter of feedback & distortion. I hope this means they’re going to play Limp Bizkit.

You can buy tickets for this musical spectacular here, or have a lil’ peek at the Facebook Event for it here, if that’s what you’re into.

If you’d like to know more about Distorted Tapes (who have a new release from God Damn, gigs from We Are Knuckle Dragger & Gnarwolves, and interviews with Neils Children & Jetplane Landing) you can put them in brain here.

So. The weather is pretty nice today. We thought you may want to stream the new Magnetic Fields album ‘Love at the Bottom of the Sea’ to celebrate.

Official release date is 6th March 2012 via Merge Records & Domino but The Guardian have an exclusive online stream because they’re nice like that.

Stream ‘Love at the Bottom of the Sea’ via The Guardian. Right here. Right now.

NEXT GIG: Shapes, Blacklisters & Them Wolves

This is the wicked cool poster for our next gig, designed by Brid Rose. We’ve got local favourites SHAPES, Leeds noise rock kings BLACKLISTERS (check out their awesome interactive Trickf**k video here), and new Brum based noise-mongers THEM WOLVES. Awesome.

Friday 16th March at The Rainbow. Tickets are £5, and you should buy one because it will work out cheaper and it makes us happy. You can do that here.

Full details on the Upcoming Events page or the Facebook Event.

NEXT GIG: Josiah Wolf (Why?) & Liz Wolf

Our next gig is just under two weeks away, and boy is it going to be a good one. WHY? are pretty much one of our favourite bands, so we couldn’t be more exciting to welcome essential member and unparalleled multi-instrumentalist JOSIAH WOLF to the Hare & Hounds on Mon 7th November.

We went down to Bristol to see WHY? do an acoustic grand piano set last week, and it was genuinely one of the best gigs we’ve ever been to. LIZ WOLF joined them as an honorary band member, and she was mightly impressive so to have her on this show as well is pretty damn awesome. Her enchanting voice, which recalls Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval, serves as a perfect addition to Josiah’s flawless rhythms. We’ve been told “…listening to Liz playing Rhodes piano, Microkorg and bass, juxtaposed by Josiah holding it down on marimba, drum kit and guitar, is never the same. Every show is different and an experiment, constantly spawning blueprints for new songs. Expect breathtaking multi-layered magic”.

As if that wasn’t enough, supports include KIERAN DUFFY (ex-UNTITLED MUSICAL PROJECT & DAS BASTARD) making his debut foray into solo waters, and MOTHERHOOD (Joe Robinson of GREAT ESKIMO HOAX fame) doing the same. What a line up!

BUT, as if that wasn’t exciting enough, we’ve just confirmed Birmingham’s favourite noise-pop trio CALORIES to DJ as well! Described by Vice Magazine as a “perfect distillation of the last 30 years of indie rock”, they’ll be spinning their favourite records for your aural pleasure all night long…swish!

JOAN OF ARC/HOT CLUB DE PARIS

So, we’re going to try our best to start updating the site more frequently. I know you miss us.

Our next show is the legendary JOAN OF ARC. Boy, am I excited! Last time they played for us (way back in 2009), it was incredible, and this time the one and only Victor Villarreal is back in the bands’ line up. Plus we have Liverpool’s finest HOT CLUB DE PARIS and our local favourites PANDAS AND PEOPLE along for the ride. Swish!

This shindig is happening on Friday 1st July (good. Friday is the best day of the week) at the Hare & Hounds (good. Hare & Hounds is one of my favourite venues). Tickets are available from WeGotTickets and TheTicketSellers. Last time, JOA nearly sold out, so I advise getting one as soon as you can…

Check out some of our favourite videos from each to get you excited…
